Gratitude

Develop an attitude of Appreciation and Gratitude as a way of life.

gratitude_nazeemaLiving abroad is fun, but it can also be challenging and frustrating. Things work differently and it can be difficult to settle in, make friends and built a life here. The first 5 years of my stay, I was miserable, constantly comparing things to South Africa. I would think ‘If only my sisters were here, if only the weather was different, if only the people were friendlier” etc. Until one day I watched Oprah on her television programme and she mentioned the benefits of gratitude. She professed that maintaining a gratitude journal can change one’s attitude drastically. I was desperate to try anything. In the beginning I wrote down things like “I slept well, my husband brought me tea in bed, my baby slept throughout the night”. After a few months I noticed that there was a shift in my consciousness. Instead of concentrating on the things that I found lacking here in the Netherlands, I started focussing on the things that were going well. Therefore I discovered for myself that it’s essential to develop an attitude of gratitude.

Develop an attitude of sincere gratitude. It is one of the most important things you can do for attracting and manifesting the things you desire. Think of yourself as a giant magnet. Whatever you are feeling, whether it is abundance or scarcity, love or fear, happiness or joy, you are in essence creating a magnetic force that attracts and draws to you events and circumstances which are in direct correlation to what you are feeling. By focussing on (for instance by compiling a list of) the things that you are grateful for in your life, you:

a) bring into your conscious awareness the good things that are already happening in your life at present on a day to day basis

b) get in a more vibrational state by shifting your consciousness on the positive things that will attract the things you desire

c) will allow productive scripting to be written in your subconscious through doing this procedure repetitively that will deliver to you more positive and productive outcomes.

Enable these three things by taking a few minutes daily to write down 3 things that you are grateful for. These can be very small. It may be that you slept well, that the neighbour smiled at you, or that your baby slept through the night.
